Subhra Debnath Concert
An Evening of Rabindrasangeet
From Thu, Aug 29, 2019 to Thu, Aug 29, 2019 ● at Auditorium Nouvelle Vague

Mohit Chakrabarti writes in the book ‘Songs Eternal’, “The songs of Rabindranath Tagore are the songs eternal. They live forever within us and perhaps beyond us. We live, love, sing, cry, dance and die with these songs only to live again. What makes Tagore’s songs so appealing and eternal? Perhaps because they are attuned with mankind anywhere and everywhere. Here is the most endearing singer who silently takes his seat in the innermost apartment of every mind and plays on with his poignant ektara like an endless, homeless wanderer — a baul. In Tagore’s songs our joys speak like birds, our sorrows sing like the mournful wind. We speak in the language of Tagore’s songs in our moments of pleasure and pain. Our windows of sense and sensibilities seek unending comradeship with his songs. To sit at the feet of a serene singer of Tagore’s songs and to be blessed with sharing experiences in never-ending dimensions of Tagoreana are indeed more than a prize for a tyro.”

Subhra Debnath — an acclaimed Rabindrasangeet singer who studied music under Dilip Das, Murad Ali, Lili Islam, Sadi Mohammad, and Rezwana Choudhury Bannya — will be performing an evening of Rabindrasangeet on 29 August 2019 at 7 pm at Alliance Française de Dhaka’s Auditorium Nouvelle Vague.
